Each capsule holds thousands of enteric-coated micropellets. The gelatin capsule dissolves in the stomach and releases them. The coating stays intact in stomach acid and only dissolves at the higher pH of the small intestine, so the enzymes are released where digestion takes place. At 0.8 to 1.8 mm the pellets mix evenly with food and leave the stomach gradually alongside it.
Standard provides Pancreatin 10,000 Ph. Eur. U and Hemicellulase 80 U per capsule. Forte provides Pancreatin 25,000 Ph. Eur. U and Hemicellulase 250 U. Both use the same enteric-coated micropellet delivery.
Enzyme-containing micropellets, plus polyethylene glycol (E1521), copolymer of methacrylic acid and ethyl acrylate [1:1], talc (E553) and a gelatin capsule shell. The gelatin shell is animal-derived, so Digestym is not suitable for vegetarians or vegans.
