1. What is Digestym® and what is its purpose?
Digestym® is a dietary supplement designed to support digestive health. It contains a combination of pancreatic enzymes (lipase, protease, and amylase) as well as hemicellulase. These enzymes help break down fats, proteins, carbohydrates, and plant fibers during digestion. Digestym® may be beneficial for individuals with reduced digestive enzyme activity or those seeking additional support with meals.
2. What is the difference between Digestym® and Digestym® Forte?
Digestym® is available in two strengths to meet different levels of digestive support.
Digestym® Standard provides 10,000 USP units of pancreatin, including 10,000 USP of lipase, 7,500 USP of amylase, 520 USP of protease, and 80 USP of hemicellulase.
Digestym® Forte contains a higher concentration with 25,000 USP units of pancreatin, including 25,000 USP of lipase, 19,000 USP of amylase, 1,399 USP of protease, and 200 USP of hemicellulase.
The Forte version is intended for individuals who require a higher level of enzyme support.
3. What is hemicellulase and why is it included?
Hemicellulase is an enzyme that breaks down hemicellulose, a type of dietary fiber found in plant-based foods such as fruits, vegetables, and grains. Its inclusion supports the digestion of fiber-rich meals and may help reduce bloating or discomfort associated with fiber intake.
4. How should Digestym® be taken?
Adults should take one capsule with a meal, unless otherwise directed by a healthcare provider. The product is intended for individuals over 18 years of age. It is important not to exceed the recommended dosage.
5. Can Digestym® be used by children or during pregnancy?
Digestym® is not intended for use by individuals under 18 years of age. Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding should be discussed with a qualified healthcare professional to ensure safety.
6. Is Digestym® suitable for vegetarians or vegans?
No. Digestym® is not suitable for vegetarians or vegans. The enzymes are derived from porcine sources and the capsule shell contains gelatin.
7. How is Digestym® formulated for effectiveness?
Each capsule contains enteric-coated micropellets that protect the enzymes from degradation in the stomach. This ensures that the enzymes are released in the intestine, where they can function effectively during the digestive process.
8. Does Digestym® contain common allergens?
Digestym® does not contain lactose, gluten, soy, or dairy. However, it includes gelatin and certain excipients such as polyethylene glycol and methacrylic acid copolymers. Individuals with sensitivities should review the ingredient list or consult their healthcare provider before use.
9. Is a prescription required for Digestym®?
No. Digestym® is available as a dietary supplement without a prescription. However, individuals with digestive disorders or those taking other medications should consult a healthcare provider before starting supplementation.
